Celebrated a golden anniversary for my parents Marg & Guy last weekend. It was great fun putting it together as we were treated royally by The McIntosh Inn in Morrisburg, Ontario. So many people helped to make this evening a success and I’m sure it was an event to be cherished forever by Mom & Dad. I danced for the first time – but it wasn’t pretty as I could move the upper half of the body but not my feet.
My first race regatta was held in Nepean at the beautiful Nepean Sailing Club. I managed to pull off a second place finish after two days and six individual races. It was our first attempt at bringing Summer along as a service dog. She is still young and can only be used to a limited capacity. She was opening all the power doors for me and picking up the odd item I dropped. Mostly she just got used to the crowds, water and the boats. I think she will do just fine. Our next regatta is in Pointe Claire at the end of July. This was the site of my first and only win so I am hoping I can defend well. I’m still continuing to learn lots about racing…it’s so humbling as just when you think your getting it, a new situation rears up….just like life isn’t it?
Last but not least, I turn another year older tomorrow and after having had my tough challenge with flesh eating, each birthday brings a smile to my face. I remember at my birthday celebration two years ago, my niece, Melissa handed me a beer – only for me to drop it twice as I didn’t have the strength hold onto it with my hand.
This year I look forward to a glass of wine and spending time with Marijo and of course my family. Take care until the next time…..
